Los Mezquites
Located in the picturesque canyon bottom of the deepest and widest canyon in the Copper Canyon area, Urique is a small, quaint town of about 3,000 people- mestizos and native Rarámuri living peacefully together in one of the most beautiful towns in the Copper Canyon. Los Mezquites is a spectacular 5 acre homestead on the outskirts of town owned by Chiro and Lola, a couple who were born and raised in the Urique area. With a lush mango orchard and an abundant garden with seasonal fruits and vegetables including papaya, grapefruit, guayabas, lettuce, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, oats, corn and much, much, more guests will never tire of the delicacies awaiting them outside their tents or bedroom doors.
Los Mezquites boasts multiple tent sites in and around the mango orchard and gardens as well as guestroom accomodations in the main house. Separate shower and bathroom facilities are available in a new outbuilding created exclusively for overnight camping guests to the farm. Accomodations can include anything from rustic camping to guestroom accomodations including guide services to nearby natural attractions. Workshops on tortilla making, cooking classes, and native Tarahumaran arts can be arranged for guests upon request.
We love our home in the Urique canyon and look forward to sharing its bounties and beauties with you! From nature walks and birding trips, to individual workshops designed to meet your interests and needs, to quiet afternoons in a hammock under the shade of the mangos-- Los Mezquites is the off the beaten path destination you've been looking for in the Copper Canyon! We hope to see you here soon!
